The Fleas Gang now consists of Shelly – the beautiful buff Cocker Spaniel and Tommy – the Black & Tan English Toy Spaniel.
Shelly was adopted from a local pet rescue organization on June 21, 2006. At that time, she was the third pup in our little family. She joined our other buff cocker spaniel, Simon and Scarlett the black Shih Tzu. She was about 2.5 years old then. Sadly, both Simon and Scarlett passed away in the summer of 2008 from old age (they were in their early teens!). So for a while, Shelly was an only “child”. Then along came Tommy.
Tommy’s story is a lengthy and sad one. He was born in a puppy mill in West Virginia and lived in a wire cage along with close to 900 other puppies for the first 1.5 years of his life. The puppy mill was thankfully shut down and on December 1st of 2008 we adopted him from the English Toy Spaniel Rescue group. He immediately stole our hearts – even Shelly’s.
He was such a timid little fella when he first adopted us, but he has really come out of his shell since then. Everyday he musters up enough courage to try something new. Following Shelly’s lead has helped him immensely.
